Campbell Corner Poetry Prize

"Whereas philosophy  tends to use myth as a clarifying  tool to render the world, and us  within it, more intelligible by the  grace and force of reason, poetry  relies on myth as matrix and co-creatrix for its spells and powers. Campbell Corner is a new site on the public square of contemporary language exchange: A place where myth and poetry, philosophy and rhetoric, together with the voice of passion, moderation and restraint, can  mingle and engage in combat as well as artful combinations, thus extending the time-honored battles between poets and philosophers which permit, even invite, extended periods of truce and peace. "

Once a year, on October 15, the Campbell Corner Poetry Prize of two-thousand five-hundred dollars for the best entry will be awarded by an outside panel of distinguished poets and writers. There is no entry fee. The winner and three finalists will be invited to give a reading at Sarah Lawrence College, the sponsoring institution, and their work will be published on Campbell Corner's Language Exchange.

To enter the poetry competition, submit one to three poems, reasonating with the themes mentioned above, to Poetry Contest Director, c/o Office of Graduate Studies, Sarah Lawrence College, 1 Mead Way, Bronxville, NY, 10708-5999. The maximum length of submission is twelve pages. Send three sets in hard copy and one disk in ACSII text format only. For the next Poetry Contest, entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2002.
